speech script

This may be my body And I may be me

But the only thing that matters

Is the fact that I am she

She can talk, sing and speak

Yet she has no voice

She may want to read and learn

But that is not her choice

For she is she and not herself

Because he knows what’s best

He knows the way that she should act

And how she should be dressed

He owns she, her life, her body

He must be obeyed

And she will submit to him

Because she is afraid

Afraid that he will hurt her

Rape her, beat her, worse

And this is all acceptable

Not illegal nor perverse

For there are things that she must learn

Not writing, reading, math

But that she is inferior And she must feel his wrath

The only work she ever does

Is wash and cook and clean

But if she were to be employed

She’d only be thirteen

Forced to sell her body

To any man who’ll pay

No waiting until marriage

Or prom night teen cliché

She will never get the choice

Of who controls her life

Either she belongs to every man

Or is just one man’s wife

For her there is no walking out

No leaving it behind

Becasue it isn’t only him

To which she is confined

as every law and expdctation

Ensures she knows her place

The shadow of a man

A scarf without a face

A vessel for new life

Wether she agrees or not

But newborn girls are rarely seen

They are strangled, drowned or shot

More girls are killed in asia

Than are born in the US every year

So the feminist movement should be fought

Not here, but over there

And yet here we are

Crusading for our rights

To post our nips on instagram

Or not get whistled at in tights

While women by the million

Are cowering in silence

In a world that’s not their own

Controlled by fear and violence

We have used our freedom

our voice, our education

to push for equal rights

Within an equal nation

Wasting time and power

On such a misplaced fight

That should be fought in countries

Where women can’t read or write

As tough as it may seem

That your outfit could be criticized

Or your walk of shame is frowned upon

Or your gender simply generalised

There are 60 million child brides

20 million sex slaves

500 million illiterate

And millions more in mass graves

Women are murdered for being raped

For claims of sex against their will

Because religion gives these men the right

To abuse then beat and kill

These women cannot help themselves

Theyre killed for just complying

But can western feminists give this help

Are they even trying?

There is more of an uprising

Against western women’s body hair

Than there is any talk or worry

Of these third world women’s welfare

While we embrace our mini dresses

And thigh high boots and lace

They will never be allowed

To show their own bare face

Yet we still push for more

More legs, more ass, more chest

Yet never have we fought for them

As they remain oppressed

We have the rights, the strength

The time and the voice

To simply raise awareness

For those who have no choice

No choice of how they’re living

No choice of where they’re born

No choice of who they lose

Who’s lives they have to mourn

Its our duty as the privileged

To fight for what is just

Instead of simply publicising

Our bodies and our lust

This is where we’re needed most

But are always seen least

In Africa, in asia

And in the middle east

Where she is merely she

And simply nothing more

And what she need is us

To fight and win this war

This may be my body

And I may be me

But the only thing that matters

Is the fact that I’m not free
